Importance of sustainability in fishing companies

Hayduk is the result of a life in permanent contact with the sea. Therefore, as an entrepreneur in this sector, I am aware of the respect and care that we must have with our resources to continue with the work that we are so passionate about fishing. These 27 years have been of firm learning and they taught me that, if we want our industry to be sustainable, we must protect it.

Initiatives for industrial sustainability

During the last years,
fishing in Peru has evolved favorably as a result of the constant research of our sea and the diversity of its species. And this, over time, has allowed the State to design and stipulate a series of regulations for fishing companies to comply with demanding parameters of sustainability.

However, we are aware that the sector is large and that part of this aspect should not be limited only to
fishing seasons, but to implement more and better mechanisms for a sustainable industry to continue to develop. This involves modern tools to monitor all fishing activity and protect it from illegal ones. Some examples of this are the satellite tracking system for vessels and the fishing surveillance and control program through inspections at all landing sites.

Likewise, increasingly stringent regulations are being drawn up concerning the closure areas and the fishing of juveniles. These guarantee the health of our biomass, which must be treated with technical-scientific sustenance.

The case of Hayduk

From the beginning, the care of the sea and its resources have been our pillars. At Hayduk, we have a commitment to
sustainability, and this has led us to adhere to all the parameters established by law. A good example of this is that we respect the minimum sizes during the fishing season, as well as the maximum catch limit per vessel.

On the other hand, the implementation of new technologies and the important international certifications that we have, support us as a company that firmly believes that progress must go hand in hand with the care of the species.
All this motivates us to continue forward and keep in mind that, although these measures are of great help, they will be useless without our commitment to the development of the sector. I am a lover of the sea and I know that taking care of it is not only a guarantee that our industry will grow, but that it will be sustainable over time.

We are already getting it. Let's continue building that path!
